Situated Teaching for Situated Authentic Learning: Lessons from and for EAL

In this plenary, we will look at what research has indicated should be prioritized in teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) students. However, one area which research has failed to address, so far, is how teachers can best promote the quality teaching necessary for English Language Learners (ELLs) to be able to deploy a wide range of academic and communicative strategies. I will attempt to lie out this information by presenting a case study of an expert instructor who teaches both on site and online and how he provides organic mediated learning experiences that help learners apply their emergent proficiency to authentic contexts.
